  1. Quality
  2. Very Good 3.5

I enjoyed DAN IN REAL LIFE immensley, mainly because I could relate to the storyline and simultaneously see that happening to me. The great thing about Steve Carell is (with the exception of some of the stupid choices his characters make), I’m pretty much that guy. DAN IN REAL LIFE isn’t one of those much talked-about Carell movies, but it definitly is worth a watch. There are some pretty decent laughs, a very interesting story and fantastic performances by all involved. Definitly recommended.

  3. Very Good 3.5

This assortment of actors and actresses are all joyfully wonderful (yeah, that’s a weird sentence…) However, comedian Dane Cook just feels rather – er, out of place in the family setting. But hey, it’s still better than getting Luke Wilson.

  4. Male Stars Really Great 4.5
  5. Female Stars Very Good 3.5
  6. Female Costars Very Good 3.5
  7. Male Costars Very Good 3.5
  8. OK 2.5

Nothing that reeks Hollywood (but then again, it is a FOCUS PICTURES presentation, so that could be why…), but overall, a decent presentation.

  9. Direction Very Good 3.5

    Point-and-shoot.

  10. Play Very Good 3.5

    Very down-to-earth.

  11. Music Pretty Awful 0.5

I didn’t notice any composition, and that’s not neccesarily a good sign.

  12. Visuals Very Good 3.5
  13. Content
  14. Tame 1.5

Slight nudity (though nothing is technically shown) and a bit of swearing.

  15. Sex Innocent 1.5
  16. Violence Gentle 1.0
  17. Rudeness Salty 2.1
  18. Natural 1.0

All things considered, nothing in DAN IN REAL LIFE couldn’t happen to me (bugger, I probably just jinxed myself). Sure, some of the situations are a bit outlandish and not so very down-to-earth (ie the shower sequence; the togetherness of the family), but then it wouldn’t be comedy we’d pay to see then, would it?

  19. Circumstantial Natural 1.0
  20. Biological Natural 1.0
  21. Physical Natural 1.0
