  1. Quality
  2. Really Great 4.5

THE MIST is a rather strange movie. Think LORD OF THE FLIES (as far as plotline) meets DAWN OF THE DEAD (place of convienence serving as command shelter) meets a monster movie. It’s strange, but fantastic. THE MIST truly is a wonderful movie, handled with intelligence, suspense, intrigue, scares, etc. The ONLY unfortunate aspect of THE MIST is that the ending is predictable. Ultimately, it would seem, it’s unavoidable. It’s the only ending that could possibly happen in the context of the story. Overall, THE MIST is highly recommended.

  3. Really Great 4.5

Everyone kicks serious butt, here. From the sane to the luney, I was highly impressed by the performances of everyone involved.

  4. Male Stars Really Great 4.5

Thomas Jane is the man, man. I loved him in THE PUNISHER (2004), and I love him in THE MIST. This man can do no wrong. This film asks Jane to go through different emotional levels, and Jane delivers gracefully.

  5. Female Stars Really Great 4.5
  6. Female Costars Really Great 4.5
  7. Male Costars Really Great 4.5
  8. Very Good 3.5

With Frank Darabont as director, everything is – as expected – top notch.

  9. Direction Great 4.0

I had never seen a Frank Darabont film before (yes, I know, bad me), but now seeing THE MIST, I am an avid follower. I’m going to sound like a giddy litle school kid, but Darabont is Spielberg, man! The guy has some fantastic camera work. Now in my top three fav. directors (Spielberg, Darabont, Cuaron).

  10. Play Great 4.0

    Fantastic script. Fantastic.

  11. Music Barely OK 2.0

It’s strange that Mark Isham (CRASH) was selected to score the movie, ‘cause the end and end credits is the ONLY time there is even music in the flick. So, why get big-profile dude to compose a piece that’s hardly prevelent? Anyway, about what he DID score: well, it was a lot of chanting, trying to create a ‘this is really awful’ feel to it.

  12. Visuals Great 4.0

Awesome! Very, very, very awesome! Extremely intense, extremely insane, extremely engaging. The visuals are awesome.

  13. Content
  14. Risqué 2.3

Hardly anything really noteworthy. There’s a kiss, some cussing, and a bit of bloodshed.

  15. Sex Innocent 1.3

A kiss! Oh my god! Shield my innocent eyes!

  16. Violence Brutal 3.5

This isn’t SAW with the blood shed, but there’s blood o’plenty! Not much in the way of violence, but just a lot of death, blood gushing (not KILL BILL-style, mind you), and shooting creatures/people.

  17. Rudeness Salty 2.2

A few ‘fucks’ and ‘son of a bitch’ to obtain an R rating.

  18. Surreal 3.0

Supernatural all the way around, mates. Well, as far as the ‘what’ and ‘how’ of the story. Everything else is pretty much in the form of ‘what would you do?’, thus making the movie more grounded on earth.

  19. Circumstantial Supernatural 3.4
  20. Biological Supernatural 3.9

Creatures from an alternate dimension coming into this world.

  21. Physical Glib 1.8

I remember Richard Roeper saying he saw the ending coming from a mile away. Me, I can’t say, my sister spoiled the ending for me.

Did anyone else see the ending coming? How did you like the special effects?
