I liked this movie. A bit campy/fairy-tale for some, but for people who really appreciate the affect music can have, it will tug at some emotional strings within you. Freddie Highmore does a good job as the orphan. It was interesting to watch Robin Williams in a quasi-bad-guy-yet-good-in-a-way ch…

If you are a Pink Floyd fan, then this movie should be on your to-see VuList. A thorough journey in to the band-member’s viewpoints on the music they created. It is very apparent that these guys know there wasn’t much they could do to top that album, and that album defines them even to this day….

OK
Constant name dropping and a self-serving biography about rock photographer Robert Knight’s pursuit of great guitarists is a little off-putting at times, but I’ll have to admit seeing footage and hearing stories of some of rock’s greats was darn interesting. Just some of the names we are t…

OK
The only reason this movie was interesting at all was for its concert footage. The interviews were mostly self-serving, with some exceptions when the band talked about Freddie Mercury or the recluse drummer Roger Taylor. The band was amazing. Their style isn’t for everyone, but the musicianship -…

Ron Howard chronicles Jay Z’s musical melting pot. I can’t think of a better way to get a broad spectrum music that you probably are not listening to a lot of. Take a gander at Rita Ora, Kanye West, Pearl Jam, Janelle Monae, Skrillex, Santigold, the Hives, D’Angelo, and many more. My favorite…

I really enjoyed Jaime Foxx’s version of the great Ray Charles. The movie was as entertaining as a biopic gets. Jaime’s acting great – he seemed to become Ray himself. I simply forgot that I was watching an actor and not the legend. The movie surrounds itself with Ray’s wonderful music and give…

Tons of laughs form the Channing Tatum and crew. I mean, how could you not find the premise of following a stud-muffin crew on their final blowout funny. Just the story generates lols, but the cast does a great job of stretching that out for the entire film.

Queen Latifah knocks one out of the park with Bessie – a story about the legendary blues singer Bessie Smith. You definitely get to know that tough dame — surviving in a tough business — constantly battling alcoholism and the ill effects of the party life. Unfortunately the screenplay and re…

OK
A Moody story that tries to be both an introspective tale of grief and recovery as well as a comedy and a romance. Unfortunately, it isn’t great any of that. The story is interesting enough, but it was hard to really identify with the characters due to some really questionable acting.

Beyonce, Jaimie Foxx, Eddie Murphy, Danny Glover, Jennifer Hudson – need I add more? There were more. A terrific cast did a great job of giving us a glimpse into the life of soul-sisters in the 60’s. It was a little weird seeing Eddie Murphy singing like James Brown, but the unexpected musical …
