  1. Quality
  2. Perfect 5.0

This movie’s blazing power and brilliance has been somewhat diminished in social circles because you cant watch an episode of ‘Cribs’ without seeing some overpaid undertalented Z-list celebrity showing of there multiple posters of Scarface and/or its driving force Antonio Montana(Pacino). If you can ignore that(and dont mind crazy columbians weilding chainsaw’s, drug use that makes Pulp Fiction look like it was written by Jane Austen and the occasionally dodgy ‘latino’ accent) you are/or already have been in for a treat. If you enjoy cinema this is simply a film you have to see, or see again and again and again. 3 hour long story short it centres on Tony Montana(Pacino) an illegal immigrant from Cuba who lands in Miami along with thousands of other cubans in the early 80’s. We then follow Tony go from prisoner to dishwasher to drug runner to ultimately become the one of the biggest Druglords the US has ever seen. The story wont end there but for the few who have yet to witness this scorching depiction of ambition and lust for power i wont give anything further away. Al Pacino is, along with De Niro, one of the finest actors ever to appear on screen or stage, and this, in my opinion, is his finest achievement. Not discounting Godfather 1 & 2 obvously but the difference here is he almost singlehandedly drives this epic story arc from beginning to end and does it with such ferocity and power(without ever becoming a charicature) that you do not notice the long running time passing. Ally this with Brian De Palma’s excellent(as always) direction, Oliver Stone’s rip roaring script and a brilliant 80’s soundtrack and you have one of the greatest films of all time. Given its tone, subject matter and graphic nature it will suit everyones taste but if you can live with that and you enjoy cinema at its absolute finest then you have to see this film…and/or see it again and again and again!

  3. Perfect 5.0

aside from the odd dodgy latino accent, as the majority of actors are americans depicting cubans or columbians, the performances are all top quality. and at the centre of all of them is one of the best individual performances by an actor in history by Pacino portraying Tony Montana.

  4. Male Stars Perfect 5.0
  5. Female Stars Perfect 5.0
  6. Female Costars Perfect 5.0
  7. Male Costars Perfect 5.0
  8. Perfect 5.0

i’m not the 80’s biggest fan but this film manages to take a snapshot of american pop culture in the early 80’s and even now 20 years later it never appears dated.

  9. Direction Perfect 5.0
  10. Play Perfect 5.0
  11. Music Perfect 5.0
  12. Visuals Perfect 5.0
  13. Content
  14. Sordid 3.2
  15. Sex Titillating 1.6

none to really speak off visually but undercurrent is always apparent given Pacino’s scorching performance

  16. Violence Savage 4.0

Yep, Stabbings, Assault Rifles and Spinning Chainsaws this ones got it all!

  17. Rudeness Nasty 4.0

language is colorful to say the least, but necessary.

  18. Natural 1.0
  19. Circumstantial Natural 1.0
  20. Biological Natural 1.0
  21. Physical Natural 1.0

Regarding MetalJunky5000’s Review
Balanced and sober assessment MJ. It’s been years since I’ve screened it, though I remember having to turn away from the screen when the chain saws came out.

One thing you didn’t mention that has gone viral is Pacino’s “Say hello to my little friend” line. You hear it so often now it’s become cliche.
