To Be or Not to Be
Good 3 Points 1983

If there was an Academy Award category called Good Intentions, “To Be Or Not To Be” would have won hands down when it came out. After all, how can you fault anybody for wanting the remake of the great film comedies of all time.

But it doesn’t work. Mel Brooks, who stars and produces, went way…

Re-Animator
Very Good 5 Points 1985

Re-animator is a classic. Released in 1985 to a potential niche audience and a surprising amount of critical fanfare, the film made jeffrey combs a horror icon and made stuart gordon a “master of horror.” based upon the series of short stories “herbert west: re-animator” by HP Lovecraft, the film…

Bad Teacher
Bad 17 Points 2011

Bad Teacher = Bad Movie. Cameron Diaz stars as a gold-digging superficial teacher who does whatever it takes to obtain coin for a boob job. The movie is over-acted with an unnecessary white trash style and prick-ish role for Cameron and unfunny attempts at humor. Skip it.

DRS should be on the ‘to view’ list of anyone who appreciates old school comedy, and if you appreciate Steve Martin and haven’t seen DRS yet, you really need to put it at the top of your list soon. Steve and Michael Caine are a real hoot to watch as they unabashedly take rich women for as …

OK 17 Points 2012

What would you do if the earth only had 3 weeks left before being destroyed by an asteroid? In the midst of what you would expect many people to do (throw cautions to the wind, behave badly, etc), Steve Carell shows us another side: being kind, reconnecting with others, etc. Paired up with Keira…

Sausage Party
Great 17 Points 2016

This is what happens when Pixar/Toy-Story like animation is applied to a story suited to the likes of Seth Rogan and Jonah Hill. Don’t let the animated plight of sentient groceries fool you; the humor is sophisticated albeit raunchy at times, but always a LOL factory. Also, don’t bring the kids…

OK 17 Points 2016

Animated , cute, apparently a family favorite according to other ratings sites, but I thought it was Meh – mostly because they violated the golden rule of kids movies – including some subtle humor for the parents.

Shimmer Lake
Great 17 Points 2017

A new twist on a great crime thriller: throw in subtle comedy and tell the story backwards. It was tough at time trying to soak in the story in reverse order, but the process of remembering the ending events and revealing the motives by showing them was a unique and fun way to experience the st…

Good 28 Points 2011

Shy, young Adam learns he is diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. Tough news indeed. Then try having your girlfriend cheat on you. Even tougher. Good thing you have got the best buddy ever, a cute therapist who hasn’t yet learned how to separate her personal and professional lives, and a take …
