  1. Quality
  2. Good 3.0

Shy, young Adam learns he is diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. Tough news indeed. Then try having your girlfriend cheat on you. Even tougher. Good thing you have got the best buddy ever, a cute therapist who hasn’t yet learned how to separate her personal and professional lives, and a take no prisoners mom. 50/50 is an endearing movie, entertaining, and LOL (because of Seth Rogan), but although it is worth watching, it doesn’t live up to its full potential in all areas due to a lack of depth.

  3. Good 3.0

Joseph Gordon-Levitt is decent enough, but seems distant throughout the film, even in parts where he is supposed to grab you with emotion

Bryce Dallas Howard – Ok as the cheating girlfriend Rachael

Seth Rogan is the star of the film as the friend Kyle. His sarcastic and irreverent humor saves the film

Angelica Houston – classic appearances – but perhaps not enough of them.

Anna Kendrick – unconvincing as the young therapist Katherine. Just couldn’t see it.

Matt Frewer is funny and recognizable as fellow patient Mitch who likes to get baked. There should have been much more of him in this film. Same goes for Philip Baker Hall. Too much talent went wasted here.

  4. Male Stars Good 3.0
  5. Female Stars Good 3.0
  6. Female Costars Good 3.0
  7. Male Costars Good 3.0
  8. OK 2.5

Not exactly formulaic; Really good in spots, and uninspiring in others. Better writing and casting in a few spots would have done this film a world of good.

  9. Direction OK 2.5
  10. Play OK 2.5
  11. Music OK 2.5
  12. Visuals OK 2.5
  13. Content
  14. Tame 1.3
  15. Sex Innocent 1.3
  16. Violence Gentle 1.3
  17. Rudeness Polite 1.3
  18. Glib 1.6
  19. Circumstantial Glib 1.6
  20. Biological Glib 1.6
  21. Physical Glib 1.6

Regarding Randy’s Review
“Despite Rogen’s recent weight loss, he is still the funny, drunk, fat guy that we all love. And rightfully so!” Here! Here!

Great review Randy. I wasn’t sure whether to make an effort to see this movie, but now will.
