Sky High
Great 83 Points 2005

Sharp satire, winning performances and terrific visuals make Sky High a treat for we grownups, and high schoolers too. Turns out this treat doesn’t get stale, as revisiting it a dozen years after its premiere proved.

First of all, Sky High is a Kurt Russell movie. Disney’s greatest male le…

Good 83 Points 2005

Occasionally LOL, though generally too clever for its own good, this tongue-in-cheek LA murder mystery is more head-scratcher than belly-laugher. That said, those in the know about the movie industry will certainly enjoy the self-referential humor.

OK 66 Points 2006

Promising concept, great star, disappointing execution: My Super Ex-Girlfriend is one of those movies where the trailer captures all the worthwhile moments. Pity, since Uma Thurman is incandescent as ever and the trailer was freshly funny when it first appeared.

Very Good 66 Points 2006

For grown fans of the original Superman TV show, Hollywoodland soothes a longstanding itch. Engagingly acted and well produced, this whodunnit joins the pantheon of high quality Hollywood murder mysteries.

Perfect 173 Points 2008

Wickedly funny, morally complex, tremendously engaging: Comik movies get no better. Worthy of its monumental hype, The Dark Knight far exceeds its immediate predecessor Batman Begins and arguably outshines the original Batman….

Very Good 99 Points 2008

Marvel follows its lead-off ‘08 home run (Iron Man) with a stand-up double. Hulk wasn’t one of my favorite Marvel characters, yet this movie is plenty entertaining, with several marvelous scenes, a few laughs and plenty of fanboy thrills.

Iron Man
Perfect 136 Points 2008

Iron Man – a super knight for our ironic age – succeeds wildly because we relate to the oh-so-human hero while laughing at his non-stop comic patter. Marvel mastermind Stan Lee, stylish director Jon Favreau and witty star Robert Downey Jr. deserve hosannas for delivering such a smart and enterta…

Sherlock Holmes
Great 109 Points 2009

Rock ‘em, sock ’em Holmes: Brilliant star Robert Downey Jr. turns the mythical detective into an action hero of the first order in Guy Ritchie’s rousing movie. Though a good show, its Jonesian hyper-reality might not be to every taste, notwithstanding today’s action movie fan expecting this sort…

Barely OK 9 Points 2010

Eek! Though I wasn’t expecting anything truely amazing from a mere popcorn flick, this reboot of the classic 1981 film Clash of the Titans proved to be oh so dissapointing. Then again, to quote Richard Roeper, "I don’t think you can use the words ‘Classic’ and ‘Harry Hamlin’ in the same sentenc…
