Robotermpredator's Review

Created Mar 02, 2008 11:39AM PST • Edited Mar 02, 2008 11:39AM PST

  1. Quality
  2. Really Great 4.5

Genetically inhanced sharks get loose in a research station and the people who worked on them must work together and try to stay alive. This won’t be easy because the sharks are super smart and super mean.

  3. Really Great 4.5

The was my first introduction to Thomas Jane and his acting ability along with Samuel L. Jackson’s are two of many reasons to see this movie. Jane is a tough guy and Sam looks like he could tear into someone at the drop of a hat. Everyone in this film brings their A game and makes their characters extremely believable. Saffron Burrows makes an incredible Dr. Frankenstein type performance that is both touching and makes you want her to get eaten. Out of all of the characters hers is the most conflicted.

  4. Male Stars Perfect 5.0

Samuel L. Jackson, LL Cool J, Thomas Jane

  5. Female Stars Perfect 5.0

    Saffron Burrows

  6. Female Costars Really Great 4.5
  7. Male Costars Perfect 5.0

    Michael Rappaport, Stellan Skarsgaard

  8. Really Great 4.5

Though the premise of genetically enhanced sharks may seem dumb the story itself takes you in.

  9. Direction Really Great 4.5

It features typical Renny Harlin moments and even a cameo by it’s director but if there is one thing that Renny knows how to direct it is action and there is an abundance of it here. Renny also knows how to use lighting and sound to create a very claustrophobic atmosphere in his underwater nightmare.

  10. Play Really Great 4.5

This movie contains probably the greatest dialogue ever spoken by a parrot on a movie screen. There is a lot of scientific mumbo jumbo that is spoken and a number of great one liners. Probably the two best bits of dialogue spoken are the Chef’s last will and testament and Samuel L. Jackson survival speach when he is trying get everyone to work together in order to survive.

  11. Music Really Great 4.5

This movie features a very haunting score. Not as good as Jaws but still makes itself known. There is also a very menacing tone in the score that even during dialogue scenes there is a hint of coldness.

  12. Visuals Really Great 4.5

The spfx are wonderful. There are times that the viewer is watching a computer image on screen and it looks so real that you don’t even know it is a visual effect. The sharks look extremely real though. They move like real animals and hunt like real animals. There is a level of meanness to them that Jaws never tapped.

  13. Content
  14. Sordid 3.1

This is a movie about killer sharks so the violence in the second half of the movie is ramped up ten fold. These sharks are quick and vicious. There are a few explosions in the movie as well. As far as sexual content and nudity there is no nudity and very very mild sexual content

  15. Sex Innocent 1.3

There is only one scene of a man and woman in bed with eachother but that is when they are waking up in the morning. They are fully clothed and nothing happens.

  16. Violence Monstrous 5.0

Like I said before, these sharks don’t bake cookies for a living. These sharks are so mean they tear another shark to pieces and eat him. The attacks are brutal and quick and without mercy.

  17. Rudeness Profane 3.0
  18. Fantasy 4.2

The idea that someone can use gene manipulation to create a group of super smart sharks that can think, swim backwards, and even recognise weapons is a bit far fetched. This is pure supernatural fantasy. These sharks seem more like monsters through the entire movie but in the end you see just how brilliant there methods are.

  19. Circumstantial Fantasy 5.0
  20. Biological Supernatural 4.0
  21. Physical Supernatural 3.6
