  1. Quality
  2. Good 3.0

Monty (Idris Elba) is a hard-lucked mechanic who has trouble making ends meet to support his three daughters, who are living with their maternal grandmother. After she passes away, Monty tries to win custody of his daughters. But his drug dealing ex-wife (Tasha Smith) causes trouble for Monty, making the courts see her way and winning custody of her girls. Knowing his girls are in trouble with his ex-wife and her thug friends, Monty tries to win them back with the help of Julia (Gabrielle Union), a beautiful Ivy-League educated lawyer. The two couldn’t be more different, but that fact somehow brings them closer together…personally and professionally.

  3. Great 4.0

The acting was very good in this film. Idris Elba and Gabrielle Union had some nice chemistry. Tasha Smith as the evil ex was such a bitch that I hated her guts. She’s definitely someone you love to hate. Louis Gossett Jr. does fine in the small role he’s given. And the three daughters (China Anne McClain, Lauryn Alisa McClain, and Sierra Aylina McClain) are very believable and actually quite charming. Nice cast of characters and actors here.

  4. Male Stars Great 4.0
  5. Female Stars Great 4.0
  6. Female Costars Great 4.0
  7. Male Costars Great 4.0
  8. Great 4.0
  9. Direction Perfect 5.0

Nothing bad about the direction. Tyler Perry knows what he is doing behind the lens.

  10. Play Good 3.0

Tyler Perry wrote the screenplay. It’s not horrible but it’s overly cliched and predictable. You knew exactly how things were gonna go down and what would happen next. Plus, there wasn’t enough character development to make us care about the relationship between Elba and Union. Could have used more polish but I pretty much got what the story was trying to say.

  11. Music Really Great 4.5

R&B and hip hop music that works well for the film.

  12. Visuals Great 4.0
  13. Content
  14. Tame 1.2
  15. Sex Innocent 1.0

There’s some sexual innuendos at a point or two but nothing shocking. I think Disney’s THE LITTLE MERMAID is more sexy than this film.

  16. Violence Fierce 1.6

A few fist fights here and there. There’s one where this dude gets the crap beat out of him in front of the little girls. That’s about it.

  17. Rudeness Polite 1.0

I think the only curse word that I heard was probably “bitch”? Some “tramp” and “skank” thrown in there as well. Pretty much a PG film.

  18. Natural 1.0

While the romance subplot is pretty “movie world”, I could see something that this actually happen. I’ve seen stranger things happen, so who knows?

  19. Circumstantial Natural 1.0
  20. Biological Natural 1.0
  21. Physical Natural 1.0
