Wick's Review

Created May 28, 2016 05:00PM PST • Edited Jun 01, 2016 04:33PM PST

  1. Quality
  2. Pretty Bad 1.5

Kevin Hart mugs strenuously throughout Ride Along 2, but it’s not nearly enough to give the movie comedic lift. Indeed, there’s only one other comic actor in the cast with him and that’s Ken Jeong, who is more annoying than funny. Everyone else is a straight man, which means the movie simply isn’t very funny.

    Bottomline: Bad Airplane Movie

  3. OK 2.5

Ice Cube plays his usual angry and irritated shtick, to little effect.

Kevin Hart churns out movies on what seems like a monthly basis. His loud and frantic style can be funny with the right project and in small doses, neither of which is the case here.

    • Tika Sumpter is lovely as his fiancé. She’s got screen presence, as she showed in Get On Up.
    • Benjamin Bratt is an effective Mr. Big, but so what.
    • Olivia Munn has a hottie-next-door thing going, but is largely wasted in RA2.
    • Ken Jeong’s career is a testament to persistence more than actually being funny.
  4. Male Stars OK 2.5
  5. Female Stars Good 3.0
  6. Female Costars Good 3.0
  7. Male Costars OK 2.5
  8. Pretty Bad 1.5
  9. Direction Bad 1.0
  10. Play Bad 1.0
  11. Music OK 2.5
  12. Visuals Very Good 3.5
  13. Content
  14. Risqué 2.5

I saw Ride Along 2 on an airplane, so its native profanity was all stripped out. In fairness, it might have been funnier in its original R-rated incarnation.

  15. Sex Titillating 1.7
  16. Violence Brutal 3.1
  17. Rudeness Profane 2.6
  18. Supernatural 3.1
  19. Circumstantial Surreal 2.5
  20. Biological Supernatural 3.4
  21. Physical Supernatural 3.3
