BrettHarrison's Review

  1. Quality
  2. OK 2.5

It would be easy to say “Jack and Jill” stinks and much of it does. But underneath the required potty and fart jokes that Sandler seem to have written into every contract is a really sweet movie wanting to get it. Does it make it? Not really but there are nice moments.

  3. Good 3.0

Sandler gives one of his better comic performances as the uber obnoxious Jill and he’s not afraid to play Jack as sort of a jerk. Even Al Pacino’s hamminess works here.

  4. Male Stars Good 3.0
  5. Female Stars Good 3.0
  6. Female Costars Good 3.0
  7. Male Costars Good 3.0
  8. OK 2.5

The production values are fine but what finally sinks this film is inconsistent writing. As a writer and producer Sandler is a like a neurotic man with intimacy issues. As soon as the film shows a little humanity here come the fart jokes.

  9. Direction OK 2.5
  10. Play OK 2.5
  11. Music OK 2.5
  12. Visuals OK 2.5
  13. Content
  14. Risqué 2.0
  15. Sex Titillating 2.0
  16. Violence Fierce 2.0
  17. Rudeness Salty 2.0
  18. Glib 1.9
  19. Circumstantial Glib 1.9
  20. Biological Glib 1.9
  21. Physical Glib 1.9

Not to worry, a Pretty Bad Movie disappears off the Top 5 pretty quick. Good choice on the regrade. Gotta call a dog a dog.

Gotta love the Sham-wow. After losing sleep over this movie last night, and after further review, I’ve decided to downgrade it to pretty bad. Although Pacino is great, it still is a dog of a movie, and one you’ll want to wait for on video.
