  2. Great 4.0

This is a fantastic 70’s horror film that doesn’t go over the top with gore and violence. In fact, there’s hardly any gore in this movie at all. A lot of people didn’t like this movie whether it be because of the lack of character development or an unpleasing ending. But I loved this movie, and it’s absolutely perfect for watching in Fall before Halloween. The atmosphere is quite chilling, and the design of the house is very creepy (I mean, it is a real house, so I suppose there wasn’t much creativity in designing it). The plot of the movie is also quite creepy. It’s based off a true story where a family lived in a house in Amityville, Long Island. Essentially, one kid went crazy and shot all of his family. The whole urban legend is that the house was haunted and blah blah. I find it to be actually quite frighting, even though I don’t believe in ghosts. The pace of the movie is somewhat slow, in that 70’s movie sense. It’s not entirely boring, but it drags on at some points. I really like the religious aspects, like the priest being unable to enter the house without having some “allergic” reaction. When things start to get very weird, the dad, George, starts to go Jack Nicholson in the Shining on his family. Well, maybe not that crazy, but you get te picture. One of my favorite lines is “Houses don’t have memories”. That must make no sense if you haven’t seen the movie, but in context, it’s a pretty powerful line. Overall, I loved this movie.

  3. Great 4.0

The acting is really fantastic, although some of the kids were a bit cheesy with the whole creepy, demonic child thing.

EXCELLENT music. In fact, it won an Oscar (or just got nominated- I don’t know). The direction is great with such an amazing atmosphere.
