  1. Quality
  2. Good 3.0

Chris Evans stars in Captain America leading a movie going audience through an action packed ride as he fights the evil Nazis. Filled with lots of action, and some pretty neat special effects that help transform Evans body from a smaller frame, into that of an impressive warrior, the movie is a good mix of old fashioned comic book excitement with summer blockbuster special effects.

While this mile-a-minute pace can be entertaining, it can also challenge a director’s effort on the storytelling portion. The trick with any super hero movie seems to be to balance the right amount of action, with an accurate telling of a story. Captain America finds a nice balance between the two, infusing just enough action to offset the necessary back-story.

What I found somewhat interesting were the similarities between this film and Star Wars movies, even to the looks of the villain, and the chase through the forest on motorcycles. Perhaps these images have become the basis for quality storytelling, and can transcend the title of a movie. I don’t know. Nevertheless, at the least, I did find the similarities intriguing.

    Good summer film.

  3. Good 3.0
  4. Male Stars Good 3.0

Evans is very likable in his role, combining his perfect physique with all-american good looks.

  5. Female Stars Good 3.0

Hayley Atwell is ok in her role, but her character never really seems to get it’s full due in development.

  6. Female Costars Good 3.0
  7. Male Costars OK 2.5

Hugo Weaving plays a pretty good evil guy. Samuel L. Jackson has a small cameo role that seems more like it was designed to be a teaser for future productions.

There are a series of sidekicks, who never really had their characters defined. Hopefully we get a chance to understand them in the future.

  8. Good 3.0
  9. Direction Good 3.0

I like the attention to detail, and I like the older feel of the WWII era film. I didn’t care for some of the over-the-top evil mennace.

  10. Play Good 3.0

    Chaotic at times, but good.

  11. Music Good 3.0
  12. Visuals Good 3.0
  13. Content
  14. Risqué 1.8
  15. Sex Innocent 1.3
  16. Violence Brutal 2.6

Lots of blood splaterring and people being killed. I would not take younger children to this film. When I went there was a little 5 year old boy dressed as the lead role. I think he was horrified by the blood and menacing evil character. Take the little ones to see the Smurfs instead.

  17. Rudeness Polite 1.5
  18. Surreal 2.4
  19. Circumstantial Surreal 2.9
  20. Biological Glib 2.0
  21. Physical Surreal 2.3

Regarding BrianSez’s Review
Marvel continues their streak. Their movies are always at least very good.
