   OK 2.5

   Now, just to clear the air, I do NOT hate Will Ferrel. In fact, I’m actually a big fan of his. Sure, he has had a couple stinkers (Kicking and Screaming, Bewitched), but overall, each of his movies have all managed to get many good hard laughs out of me. So how does The Other Guys hold up? Meh. Just meh. I was pretty dissapointed. Thats not to say I didn’t chuckle a few times. Hell, there were some moments that got many hard laughs out of me. But overall, the whole thing was just uneven.

   After the deaths of two star cops, partners Terry Hoitz and Allen Gammel (who are considered to be the cop bottom feeders) decide to follow a case that both will believe will put them at the top of the ranks. The only problem is that things don’t go according to plan.

   When I saw that Will Ferrel was reuniting with longtim collaborator Adam McKay and throwing Mark Wahlberg into the mix, I thought this was gonna be great! I mean, what could be funnier than Mark Wahlerg playing an angry cop? He did the exact same thing in The Departed! And it would be cool to see him take on the comedic ropes. But, sadly, the film was just a big letdown. As I said, the comedy did work well in some places, but a good majority of the jokes just fell embarrasingly flat.

   On top of that, you could tell the movie was going for an R rating because its easy to see they cut a majority of the scenes that could’ve been naughty but ended up being preteen friendly. Had this been given the R rating, it could’ve been hilarious!

   Overall, The Other Guys is just an overrated mess of what could’ve been a good comedic buddy cop movie. A lot of it worked, but a lot more of it didn’t. I’d say if you really want to see it, just rent it. Otherwise, don’t bother.

4. Acting

   Good 3.0

   The acting was pretty solid. Walhberg and Ferrel both have good chemistry. And Wahlberg’s comedic timing is surprisingly really good.

   The real scene stealers were Samuel L. Jackson and Dwayne Johnson in their cameo as hot shot cops whom everyone idolizes. I’d probably rather see a movie about them.

   As for the rest of the cast (Michael Keaton, Eva Mendes), they all do well with what they’re given. Even though What they’re given isn’t much.

    The action sequences were well shot especially considering McKay’s worked with only comedies.

    As I said, the script was uneven.
