Good 3.0
A pretty engaging film about the infamous Baron von Richtoven — following him from his youth and on in to his WW I deadly (deadly to the enemy that is) activities. I didn’t research how accurate to history the film was, but it was remarkable how well they shot the flying scenes and gave a seemingly realistic but perhaps slightly glossed over look at being a pilot back in the day. Chivalry may have been dead in the trenches, but it still thrived in the air – and despite how deadly Richtoven was, he was well respected by friend and enemy alike. And why was the Baron’s plane red — even though that made him easier to spot? “I don’t want them to be surprised, I want them to be scaredâ€.

OK 2.5
This review is about a week after I watched the film, and I can’t say that the acting stands out tremendously. Matthias Schweighöfer did do a solid job of acting in the main role – and any misgivings were more about the writing than the acting, so not his fault. It was cool to see Til Schweiger (Inglorious Basterds).

Very Good 3.5
Great aerial photography and detailed airplanes, costumes, etc. Either the pilots had it really good in real-life, or the film seemed a bit glossy. Not sure if the real-deal was so glamorous.
