  1. Quality
  2. Great 4.0

Elements of Hitchcock and Stephen King packaged with the cinematic prowess of Scorsese as an ominous thriller. The premise and the structure of the film isn’t novel – but you will leave the theatre feeling that you got a good return for the admission price, and that Scorsese lives up to his reputation once again. The film takes you on both a physical and mental journey to a place that is almost certainly up to no good. But just like any good psycho-thriller, twists have you second guessing your own theories about the evil that is transpiring.

  3. Very Good 3.5

Leonardo DiCaprio fits as the tormented detective. He puts out with great range and believable psychosis. Sidekick Ruffalo performs solidly. Ben Kingsley was well cast as the evil (or is it nice?) head of the island. Max Von Sydow was also very well cast as the chief doctor presiding over unspeakable things.

  4. Male Stars Very Good 3.5
  5. Female Stars Very Good 3.5
  6. Female Costars Very Good 3.5
  7. Male Costars Very Good 3.5
  8. Great 4.0

I liked the way Scorsese packaged up great elements of psycho-thriller, mystery/suspense, and good old fashioned character drama, except with vivid references to a person’s skeletons.

  9. Direction Great 4.0
  10. Play Great 4.0
  11. Music Great 4.0
  12. Visuals Great 4.0
  13. Content
  14. Sordid 2.8

As you’d expect criminally insane people perform criminally insane acts.

  15. Sex Erotic 2.9
  16. Violence Brutal 2.7
  17. Rudeness Profane 2.7
  18. Surreal 2.6
  19. Circumstantial Surreal 2.6
  20. Biological Surreal 2.6
  21. Physical Surreal 2.6

Regarding hurwizzle’s Review
Interesting. It was the reverse for me: liked the movie but not the trailer.

OMG Thank you for posting a review, Wick. I’ve been hearing so many mixed reactions and from what I saw on “At the Movies”, it wasn’t lookin too good but now that I’ve seen your review, this is surely gonna be a great one.
