  1. Quality
  2. Good 3.0

Anne Deveraux (Renee Zelweger) takes us on a humorous and entertaining road-trip with her very different sons as she seeks a shelter from her stormy life. Starting with the extraction of revenge from the suave and charming but cheating band-leader husband (Kevin Bacon), the story generates smiles, chuckles, and knowing recognition of family drama at each subsequent turn of events. An increasing level of strain and misadventure ensue as Anne is (re) introduced to prospective savior-suitors – each one worse than the last. Rather than peg Anne as a gold-digger, you realize that underneath all the 30’s style glamour is someone who is just trying to do the best she can for her family.

  3. Good 3.0

Renee was a shoe-in for the glamorous Anne Deveraux. Beauty, congeniality, and a sassy attitude can take you places. I would have liked to have seen more from Kevin Bacon who was also a natural in his womanizing role. I also liked Logan Lerman as the effeminate son and David Koechner as the paint-man from the Looney bin.

  4. Male Stars Good 3.0
  5. Female Stars Good 3.0
  6. Female Costars Good 3.0
  7. Male Costars Good 3.0
  8. Very Good 3.5

Seamless transitions from place to place make this movie easy to watch. Each location tells its own little story and dives just deep enough into the new characters to add to the color without distracting you with too many diversions. Beautiful cinematography and a well done recreation of the 30’s.

  9. Direction Very Good 3.5
  10. Play Very Good 3.5
  11. Music Very Good 3.5
  12. Visuals Very Good 3.5
  13. Content
  14. Risqué 1.8
  15. Sex Titillating 1.8
  16. Violence Fierce 1.8
  17. Rudeness Salty 1.8
  18. Glib 1.7
  19. Circumstantial Glib 1.7
  20. Biological Glib 1.7

Yeah – one of the twists in the movie is how George’s career gets launched — well, at least the acting part (not the tanning part)….

Regarding BrianSez’s Review
Happy you liked this one Bri. I’d had it on my watch list but never got around to seeing it. Sounds like it’s now worth going in the Netflix queue.

BTW, according to IMDb, Renee Zelweger’s character is supposed to be George Hamilton’s mother, which means one of the sons is the future Hollywood Tanning Champion.
