Perfect 5.0
Darren Aronofsky floods my top 5 list once more- this time with The Wrestler. Being a huge fan of Aronofsky’s work, I knew I had to see this one. I was sad to see it didn’t have the same artsy and experimental feel as his other works, but The Wrestler was still outstanding. Mickey Rourke has the biggest comeback of the decade (or should I say last decade since it’s 2010 now) as he plays his role perfectly.

Darren Aronofsky, director of Pi and Requiem for a Dream, doesn’t use his same style here. If you’ve seen Pi or Requiem for a Dream or even The Fountain, you wont necessarily be dissapointed, but you’ll ask yourself why this feels more like a mainstream movie rather than an artsy movie. While it may be hard to get over the big change, the movie overall is beyond perfect, and I’m excited for Darren’s upcoming film, Black Swan.

There is a pretty intense sex scene, and there is a scene where he is wrestling in barbed wire.

One thing I love about Aronofsky’s work, is tat all of his films are true to life, wheather people want to believe that or not, since his films depict the grimmer side of life.

Great review AMC. I’ve tried to see The Wrestler twice now, and both times it was sold out. So I saw Revolutionary Road the first time, which was good enough, but not something I would have otherwise seen. Then I saw Waltz with Bashir the second time. At least that was a movie I needed to see. Anyway, I still gotta see The Wrestler, now more than ever after reading your review. |
