Horrible Bosses 2

Good
With HB2, you have a mostly sucky story, but really good lol generating comedic antics by a solid cast. You have your new-Stooges with Bateman, Sudeikis, and Day – performing in a way that shows tribute to Danny DeVito’s Sunny in Philadelphia. Then you have Kevin Spacey and Kris Pine who do the…

Very Good
Almost every conceivable car, gun, hand-to-hand combat, and areal action sequence was stuffed in to 137 minutes. A bit outlandish, but very cool. The acting isn’t stellar, but fits well with the film’s action and appeals to the franchise’s loyal fans. What else would you expect from all the bra…

OK
Standard war movie fare: Â A small group of jarheads against all odds, survive against the Taliban while carrying out an unlikely mission of having to rescue a local female political hero. Decent (albeit mindless) shoot-em-up entertainment is sometimes just what the Dr. ordered for war movie buffs.

Magic Mike XXL

Good
Tons of laughs form the Channing Tatum and crew. I mean, how could you not find the premise of following a stud-muffin crew on their final blowout funny. Just the story generates lols, but the cast does a great job of stretching that out for the entire film.

Insurgent

BrianSez
– with 17 Trust Points – rated it
Very Good
This sequel to Divergent builds upon its predecessor’s concept of factions and power politics in a great old-school dystopian future telling. The action packed fight against the bad guys makes for solid entertainment, even if Kate Winslet’s acting isn’t especially memorable.

Independence Day: Resurgence

BrianSez

OK
Yet another example of an unimpressive sequel. Now, instead of a fond remembrance of a classic, I’ve got a bad taste in my mouth from a cheesy man vs invading aliens reboot that tries too hard to use nostalgia for the old characters.

Really Great
I thought I’d be tired of the Furious franchise, but nope, another awesome thrill ride! Looking for details? Forget it, just enjoy the action and enjoy the massive amounts of testosterone generated machismo by the modern muscle-bound greats.

Retread Pirates of the Caribbean fare. See it for the fun action and retread humor, not for sophistication or originality.
