Good 17 Points 2015

An interesting re-telling of the famous Frankenstein story, featuring James McAvoy as the mad scientist plus a big focus on his side-kick Igor (Daniel Radcliffe – what, no hump!?) and his love interest (Jessica Findlay). It’s a fresh twist on things that keeps the story interesting and provide…

Jupiter Ascending
OK 17 Points 2015

Without the decent action and special effects, all you’d be left with is a confusing and messy misuse of Mila Kunis and Channing Tatum’s talent.

Painkillers
Barely OK 17 Points 2015

Marines in Afghanistan end up in hospital not knowing why, and I don’t know why I stuck it through this movie. In the end, this conspiracy / thriller wasn’t entirely horrible, but I’d never pay to watch it.

Good 17 Points 2015

A tale of survival in a post apocalyptic world. Two women run in to a man living on his own, and what ensues is a quiet drama where human needs are basically anybody is interested in. The entire thing is almost plausible, and I was pretty drawn in and engaged for the whole movie.

OK 17 Points 2016

Yet another example of an unimpressive sequel. Now, instead of a fond remembrance of a classic, I’ve got a bad taste in my mouth from a cheesy man vs invading aliens reboot that tries too hard to use nostalgia for the old characters.

Star Trek Beyond
Perfect 83 Points 2016
Bestest. Star Trek. Ever.

Star Trek Beyond never loses touch with all that made Star Trek great from its earliest incarnation, yet uses 2016 movie magic to create an Enterprise and assorted 23rd century tech-gear better than ever before.

Plus it plays the iconic opening notes of the a…
