Good
This movie was presented to me as a samurai movie. Let me be clear…it is NOT a samurai movie. It is basically a love story. A samurai becomes blind in his duty to the lordship. Now he must figure out how he will be able to maintain his life. His wife is pushed by his family to make some qu…

Perfect
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon is not a martial arts movie, it is a love story, an epic. It reflects upon many types of love. The quiet nature of mature love, the passion and intensity of youthful love. It is a broad sweeping movie that is profound and profoundly beautiful.

Good
Balls of fury is a silly take on the classically cliche form of the martial arts movie…replacing martial arts with ping pong in this case. Yes, the movie is ridiculous. Yes, the movie is somewhat unsubtle in its portrayal of comedy. There is one thing that Balls of fury does do with a sense …

Very Good
Surprisingly entertain, if a bit self-serving to Stephen Chow, who produced, directed, and stars as the film’s hero. A interesting mix of martial arts and cartoonish parody of artsy Chinese martial arts epics.

I remember Billy Jack ‘blowing me away’ as a young child, so I decided to stream it last night for a novelty. Billy is an ex Green Beret, now protector of wild horses and a free-art school. Good thing he is an expert in martial arts and shooting, because that’s what it takes to protect those lo…

Good
Brandon Lee (Eric Draven) is brought back to life a year after he and his fiancée are brutally murdered. This action film uses the fantasy of reincarnation powered by revenge guided by a crow to get in plenty of action with a martial arts twist as the son of Bruce Lee dons a goth-Joker look and…

Pretty much what you’d expect from a martial arts film. A straight forward story-line of a 20th century boy saddled with the daunting task of learning Kung Fu and using a found magical weapon to battle his way through ancient China in order to defeat an evil warlord and save a mystical ancient king.

OK
Should you really re-make a classic like ‘Karate Kid’? Well, I suppose we can make an exception for Jackie Chan, despite the over promotion of Will Smith’s son Jaden. Still, I hate the idea that kids seeing this movie may never experience the original. Nothing terribly memorable, but a f…
