Very Good
Disney teams up with ESPN films on this feel-good/third-world/girl-power ‘brain sport’ film about the true and inspiring story of Ugandan chess prodigy Lupita Nyong’o and her mentor David Oyelowo. Colorful, vibrant, and sometimes dramatic – the film keeps you engaged rooting for the underdog.

Very Good
An engaging film about a lost boy from Calcutta who is given a new life in Austrailia, yet yearns to reconnect with his roots. The story is engrossing, the acting is top notch, then add to that fantastic cinematography and a great soundtrack and Lion became a winner for me.

Great
It all starts with a drifter who kidnaps a baby, and gets way more complicated from there. The characters involved are the the real story, but the twists, turns, ups and downs make the story great as well. Stand up jobs by Ellen Page, Allison Janney, and Tammy Blanchard.

Very Good
Loved the imperial era of Great Britain, who took it upon themselves to chart (and conquer) the world. That makes this story of a grand adventure plausible and fun. A man’s life-long passion to find a treasure. This is a very good story told with epic flair and mystery – borderline great film.

Barely OK
Banished to the desert by law enforcement to a land of cannibals and drug users? The whole movie makes very little sense. Sort of poorly done Mad Max.

Melancholy mystery follows an Australian lighthouse keeper and his wife’s plot to adopt a baby that isn’t their own. Involving drama and great scenery. Worth a watch.

Chloe Moritz is great as a young woman dealing with unexplained mental illness and delusions, confounded by mis diagnosis she is finally admitted to a psych hospital. So, this ended up being a ‘medical who-dunnit’ which kept my interest and entertained.
