OK
Plodding, pretentious and predictable aren’t the attributes of high quality SciFi. Yet Arrival has been bathed in positive reviews. Amy Adams’ laudable performance notwithstanding, this praise is seriously mistaken. OK, perhaps I’d be less strident about this if the high marks hadn’t led me to …

Good
Pierce Brosnan makes the concept of a down to earth Irishman as a high flying CEO work. He almost makes up for the cheesy story of an evil I.T. genius falling a bit flat. Good but not very good.

Great
George Clooney is great as the grown up little boy in this swirling 1950’s childhood invoking adventure. Cool gadgetry Retro-Sci-Fi, and Disney drama; Just overlook the not so subtle liberal environmental forewarnings, and focus on some really great acting by Clooney, Britt Robertson, and Raffey …

Great
As other reviews have mentioned, this isn’t a western, it’s a set of classic Tarantino character studies set in the Wild West. And wild it is; not from an action perspective, but from a character perspective. And that’s the point of the movie. Lots of funny quote-able moments on this entertainin…

The Witch

OK
The acting is great, and Anya Taylor-Joy sure is cute, but there isn’t enough “there there” to save The Witch. What is supposed to be a scary witch-flick set where it is supposed to be: creepy dark woods in 1700’s new England, the movie just ends up being too slow and meandering, with a climax…
