Very Good 3.5A must see movie if you like war/historical films. This is about the 94th Massachusetts regiment of black-american soldiers who trained hard and worked hard for the right to fight against the confederates. The film was engaging and the war scenes were realistic. I found Matthew Broderick a bit too “weenie like” to really fit the role of war leutenant, albeit the priviliged son-of-Boston aspect of his role was believable. Denzel Washinton was a treat to watch in the something-to-prove role and Morgan Freeman was perfect as the older and wise sergeant who really pulled things together for the unit. The movie definately does a great job to show you the earnest and genuine desire to fight the good fight — and even in the face of continued treatment as 3rd class citizens by the supposedly enlightened union.
