Great 4.0
I love war movies, so’The Thin Red Line’ did not dissappoint me. It took too long to get to real action for my taste, and instead spent a good deal of time being melodromatic and ethereal. HOwever, once things got going, it did an amazing job of portraying the realism of the horror and craziness that the war in the south pacific brought. I’d venture to say that this movie did as good as ‘Saving Private Ryan’ and then later the Iwo Jima movies at really putting you in the place of a scared American Marine. An all star cast was a pleasure to watch — like the cameos from John Travolta. Nick Nolte was outstanding as a wacked commander, and Woody Harrelson was convincing as the leader who was there for his men. Sean Penn did a great job as well. Very cinematic and excellent film production — it is no surprise that this film was up for an academy award.
