Very Good 3.5
Southpaw is like most come-from-behind sports movies you’ve seen and will see. Not that that matters. Its all good, and in the case of Southpaw – Very Good. Jake Gyllenhaal makes a great distraught boxer who needs to rise from the ashes of his crumbling life and tragedy. Yeah, losing Rachel McAdams would be tragic for any guy – so the premise is believable. Get the old grizzled coach (Forest Whitaker), move past your tactical mistakes with your daughter and rise to the challenge of that life-defining bout. Good stuff!
