  1. Quality
  2. Great 4.0

Jennifer (Keaton) is an aspiring writer. She is staying at a house by herself near the wilderness for the summer in hopes to finish her writing. However, this is interrupted when she comes across a few dangerous men. As Jennifer is canoeing in the river one day these men pull her canoe away with her still on it. When they get to the woods they pull Jennifer off and strip her of the bathing suit she was wearing. Then they shove her on the ground of the field. One of the guys forces his way on her and rapes her. Jennifer tries to get away, muddy and bloody. It almost seems like she might, but the guys end up catching her. They try to convince one of the others, Matthew (Pace), to rape her next. Matthew is clearly the more vulnerable one out of the group. He appears to have some sort of a mental disability. However, at first he seems to be the one who realizes that it would be wrong to rape Jennifer. They don’t waste much time arguing with him though. Another one of the guys decides it is his turn. So while the others hold Jennifer down against a large rock, she gets raped for the second time in a row. It seems like they are done with her, but they still make things as difficult as possible. They leave Jennifer, dirty, bloody, sore, and naked in the woods. They also make sure her canoe and bathing suit are stranded in the middle of the river. At this point Jennifer can barely walk. She manages to make it back to her house, just to find that they are there waiting for her. They trash her house, drink her alcohol, mock her writing, and even rip it in to pieces in her face. They do all this while Matthew starts raping her, the one who supposedly didn’t want to do it. He seemed to have a change of heart. Of course, when he is done, the last one takes over. He is so violent and rude with her that even his fellow rapists see that he is taking it too far. Right as they finally leave they send Matthew to kill Jennifer so they won’t get in trouble for what they have done. They take advantage of him, knowing that he will give in to the pressure they lay on him. Matthew goes to kill her, but he can’t get himself to do it. So he just puts blood that was already on Jennifer on to the knife, so when he shows it to his friends it looks like he used it to kill her. Two weeks later, they will all be wishing that Matthew did what he said he would. Jennifer makes the roles reversed so she can get revenge on the four men who forced her to experience so much pain.

  3. Good 3.0

For the most part the acting is pretty well done. There were some cases especially from the rapists that were on the cheesy side. However, the brutality of the situation is exectued. The boys are cruel to Jennifer and their immaturity shows. Camille Keaton succeeds in gaining our sympathy. We see her pain while she is enduring this tragedy. She knows she can’t escape these men so she just gives in until they finally decide their game is over.

  4. Male Stars Good 3.0
  5. Female Stars Good 3.0
  6. Female Costars Good 3.0
  7. Male Costars Good 3.0
  8. Great 4.0

I Spit on Your Grave is a very raw film. The vast majority of the movie is full of rape scenes. A lot is shown too, which makes it more realistic. The rapists pretty much do every horrid thing to Jennifer that they can. The time that is taken on this pays off though. It goes in to such detail that in witnessing it, we want justice for Jennifer. It is very aggravating waiting for this time. When it comes, it switches the gear of the film and turns to a revenge film.

  9. Direction Great 4.0
  10. Play Great 4.0
  11. Music Great 4.0
  12. Visuals Great 4.0
  13. Content
  14. Obscene 5.0

I Spit on Your Grave has some of the most gruesome rape scenes. They are slow and brutal. Watching some one get raped once is bad enough but four times in a row with four different people kicks it up a notch. We get the impression that maybe one of them realizes the immorality of what is happening to Jennifer. Maybe, he will take control and help her escape. In a way Matthew does since he doesn’t kill her. Also the fact that this man might not understand what is going on fully makes us not group him as much with the others. However, his strength fails when he does rape her. We see that if we were Jennifer, he would still be just another rapist. The kills in this movie were great. Each one dies in a different way. All of the deaths are sick and severe. However, if any part of the movie is hard to watch it is the first portion of the movie while the rape scenes are going on. When the men are brutally dying it is like justice has been served. Jennifer is tough now and won’t be taken advantage of again. You root for Jennifer and it is almost like you feel some of the satisfaction that she is feeling.

  15. Sex Explicit 5.0
  16. Violence Monstrous 5.0
  17. Rudeness Vile 5.0
  18. Glib 1.7

At first it seems like Jennifer isn’t going to do anything. She doesn’t tell anyone that happens. She stays where she is instead of leaving. The logical thing seems to be to get as far away from there as possible especially since they know where she lives. At any moment they could come back and her nightmare would return. She finds her writing and tapes together and continues as she was before all of this happened. Two weeks passes and nothing happens. This is when Jennifer finally acts. She finds the men who raped her and kills them one by one. She lures many of them in with her looks. Jennifer does what she has to in order to give them all the pain she feels they deserve.

  19. Circumstantial Glib 1.7
  20. Biological Glib 1.7
  21. Physical Glib 1.7
