Great 4.0
The best horror movies don’t need gimmicks, they just need a really scary story, and The Haunting is a great example of that. Following the Warrens on their spooky adventure to the creepiest house ever to uncover the mystery was just such a story. Yes, it does have a healthy dose of scare you out of your wits scenes, but even if you took those away, you would be left with an A+ creepy story with well developed characters that pull you in like a part of the family. Kudos to James Wan for pulling together a top notch scary flick that did not need to wait until Halloween. I smell a sequel – which if it happens, will be eagerly awaited.

Great 4.0
Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson made a great spook-sleuthing couple. I was amazed at just how understated their characters were, yet they still managed to pack a punch at the right times. They felt like real people, which I guess they were.
Lili Taylor and Ron Livingston were an equally great couple as the victims of household nastiness. Like Farmiga and Wilson, Wan chose a more understated role for Ron Livingston as dad, but for Lili – well, lets just say that she really had to contort herself in wide varieties to make things happen.
