  1. Quality
  2. OK 2.5

Bill Murray stars in an eclectic but slowly moving script about a forlorn serial bachelor on a mission to research history and the possibility of being a dad. Subtle and sometimes awkward humor abounds amidst what seems like a surreal adventure. There isn’t much payoff in terms of a finale, but Bill (“Don Johnston – with a T”), and short performances from recognizable actors like Sharon Stone, Frances Conroy, Jessica Lange, and Tilda Swinton make the movie work despite an anti-climactic ending.

  3. Good 3.0

Bill Murray is actually very good in this film. He has that way of just giving a certain look and causing chuckles. Biggest complaint is that this seems to be his primary method of humor generation for this film.

My pick of the film is Jeffrey Wright who stars as Bill’s Carribbean neighbor who is hell-bent on seeing Bill on his adventure. Even to the point of providing him with the background Cubano-Jazz music CD to play in his rental car.

Sharon Stone – GF Number 1: Great as a ditsy blond; even better was her lush teen daughter Alexis Dziena

Frances Conroy – GF Number 2: Whispy and unassuming rich wife, along with Christopher McDonald – the new husband with that classic A-hole personality

Jessica Lange – GF Number 3: The animal whisperer. Gotta love the parts Jessica gets.

Tilda Swinton – GF Number 4: Decent as a biker chick with a chip on her shoulder.

  6. Female Costars Good 3.0
  7. Male Costars Good 3.0
  8. OK 2.5

This gets just an Ok because of the inexplicably unfulfilling ending. I’d be curious to see if anyone else out there likes this.
