OK 2.5
Kyle discovers his grandpa Bud’s old Army footlocker from WWII, the mementos within serve as the catalyst for some great wartime storytelling. As you learn with a movie opening flashback, Kyle becomes a soldier also, and the stories along with the bond made for a great movie which has a Band of Brothers feel, except with a bridging from old wars to new. Memorial Day is obviously filmed in a way to get the audience to be sentimental and thankful for all of those who serve in wartime, and it succeeds at that. In terms of being a memorable film, well not so much, but it is entertaining.

Good 3.0
James Cromwell makes a great crotchety old grandpa wartime storyteller, and Jonathan Bennett is pretty good as his grandson wartime protege.
