OK 2.5
A dramatic tale of Manchester United in the 50’s and the Munich air crash that killed 8 team members. As with most sports movies, Manchester starts with the usual formula: work hard, come from behind, do great things. Then Munich happened. Just like you’d expect, things got depressing – dealing with loss, trying to rebuild in spite of it all, etc. United didn’t so much tell a story about sports resurgence as much as it did resurgence of the human spirit. In fact, there wasn’t much soccer playing in this film at all. As a sports movie fan, this was a little disappointing, since I can get all that other stuff in most other dramas. In any case, Manchester is unique and enjoyable film for a lazy or rainy day.
