Really Great 4.5
A thoroughly engaging and heartwarming film about a Paris orphan boy who overcomes challenges, lives in the walls of the train station, and discovers secrets about the mysterious toy stand owner. The acting was great, the filming and all its graphical enhancements were amazing, and the story is something you will be glad to experience. James Cameron called Scorcese “Maestro†after moderating a Q&A after Hugo’s opening, and I concur.

Great 4.0
Ben Kingsley – equally adept when being the stern and closed shop owner as well as the animated and bright film maker
Sacha Baron Cohen – was one of the stand-out actors in this film IMHO. The quirky limp, goofy demeanor, and relentless pursuit was funny.
Asa Butterfield – was very solid as the curious survivor Hugo
Chloë Grace Moretz – I first fell for Chloe in Kick-Ass. She’s a very dynamic young actress whom I’m sure we’ll see a lot more of
Emily Mortimer – She doesn’t have a big role, and it is understated, which is interesting – I always wonder why this ends up being the case with her
Jude Law – Little more than a cameo – but he instantly imparted the reason why Hugo is who he is, with all the wonder and technical prowess of his father.

Really Great 4.5
Despite many awesome films before this, Scorcese upps the ante in a new way by adding thematic complexity and artistic interweaving of graphics and real-life. Well done!
