Very Good 3.5
Despite the feeling that I had already seen this movie, ASM was a lot of fun. As my girlfriend put it: “Spider-Man has to be the most beat-up super-hero I knowâ€. If anything, this Marvel classic shows a human side in addition to the super-spidey side to Spider-Man. It didn’t do much on the wow-factor though. The action sequences seemed a bit off, and the evil reptile-man foe was, well, almost campy. One of my biggest LOL moments was when Denis Leary snapped back “Who do you think I am: The mayor of Tokyo?â€. And that’s the segue to the the best part of this film: the dynamic cast. Bottom line, you should see it if you love summer blockbusters on the big screen, just don’t expect to be blown away.

Great 4.0
Andrew Garfield makes a great Spidey, and is definitely believable as the high-school aged geek turned bad-ass. Emma Stone, although she won’t suit everyone’s tastes, makes an awesome Spidey girlfriend. Denis Leary – I wished they had more of him in this film. Martin Sheen and Sally Field make a cute older couple. Sheen is especially great as a mentoring father figure. Rhys Ifans reminds me of someone – just can’t place it – but he was a good choice for the bad-yet-good Dr/Reptile-dude.
