This tense movie follows the 1996 trek of a group of climbers to the Everest summit. Amazing filming and scenery. You often hear about the dangers and resulting deaths, but that reality is often left out of action documentaries. Not so with this film. As it happens, another group going up to the summit at the same time were trapped in a storm, resulting in 8 deaths — so the film-makers got to capture the tenseness and affects of that as well.

I couldn’t watch this on an IMAX screen, but it was obvious that they took advantage of the format by constant panoramic and dizzying views of landscape – starting with views of the hometowns of the climbers. Sure, you get the expected sweeping views of valleys and mountains – but there are some pretty incredible shots. For example, avalanches that sweep down and over the camera, or shots looking down over a rickety ladder-bridge over what seems like an endlessly deep crevasse.
