Great 4.0
A bullied twelve year-old boy befriends a vampire-girl, who’s guardian needs to be a serial killer at night in order to feed her. Now that’s a horror movie! Nasty bullying scenes quickly put you on Owen’s side about wanting to hurt them — bad. You also quickly gain an affinity towards the girl, even when she turns in to a grotesque vampire at feeding time Although her guardian is doing most of the dirty-work, you sort of sympathise with his need to keep his trustee alive, er, dead. As the story progresses, you figure out what the logical conclusion is going to be – but it still feels like a twist of irony, and it still holds plenty of surprises. This is a great movie with a unique twist on the old horror subject of vampires. Not to be missed!

Very Good 3.5
Kodi Smit-McPhee is really good as the vampire befriending boy. Mature for his age – and convincingly so as he contemplates his new-found friendship. Equally good is Chloe Grace Moetz as the vampire herself. With Kodi, she shows her softer side — but when she smells blood, watch out!
