Barely OK 2.0
Hollywood actor Johnny Marco (Stephen Dorff) is holed up in his hotel of choice – the famous Chateau Marmont. Among the Hollywood rite of passage activities of hard partying and womanizing, Johnny is finds he needs to take care of his daughter Cleo (Elle Fanning) for more than the usual day-here-day-there. The story line isn’t terribly unique, but it is interesting to watch how Johnny’s life changes as a result of his fatherly duties. Unfortunately, the movie is riddled with torturously long, self-indulgent sequences which are overly melancholy. A life many would envy comes across as incredibly boring – Johnny is bored by himself, bored around strippers, bored at parties, and he even falls asleep during sex. As his daughter Cleo spends more time with him, things become more interesting, but not interesting enough to give this movie a higher rating. Oh, and the ending is inexplicable.

OK 2.5
Stephen Dorff is actually decent in the relatively understated role. I can’t really predict how he’d be in other types of roles because this film isn’t much of a measurement in range. Elle Fanning on the other hand does show range and promise as a young actress.

Barely OK 2.0
Sophia Loren should get credit for decent filming, but after you spend so much time on each scene – the dwelling and detail stops adding value.
