Good 3.0
A movie with character about a 1930’s Tennessee hermit (Robert Duval) who devises a plan to throw his own funeral party before he has passed away with the help of a huckster funeral home director (Bill Murray). The movie slowly (sometimes too slowly) reveals a deeper mystery in pieces as the scenes unfold – rewarding the viewer that pays attention. Abundant drama well balanced by dry humor that invokes laughs amidst the head-scratching. In the end, an interesting tale is revealed. A very entertaining film, with great acting, and a great story. Solid enjoyment albeit a tad slow.

Very Good 3.5
Robert Duval is great as the old hermit. He does the old gruff bit with such ease, you wonder if he is really like that. Bill Murray is a bit more muted, but even with his softer spoken role, humor abounds. Sissy Spacek isn’t exactly memorable, but she does her dramatic role at a level you’ve come to expect. Bill Cobbs was also great to see. Who knew that in their later years, this crew can still work it.

Despite the slowness, Get Low is a good blend of interesting story, a great cast of characters, good blend of drama and humor, and a really cool soundtrack to boot.
