OK 2.5
Psychics and people who suffer traumatic events is the main theme of Eastwood’s meandering fantasy-drama. After the opening of a gripping traumatic event, Hereafter slowly slips in to a meandering tale that follows three different stories: a woman who survives a tsunami, a boy who suffers through the death of his brother, and Matt Damon as a psychic who gets such intense visions from his subjects, that his talent is more of a curse than a gift. Reviews are quite mixed on this film, so it may be worth a watch, but for me, it was too slow, and although the actors are quite good, the drama wasn’t gripping enough to make up for the pace.

Very Good 3.5
The acting is generally very good. Matt Damon is completely credible as the intensely affected psychic. Cecile De France is less convincing – but I place that fault more in the hands of the writing. Frankie McLaren is very good as the thoughtful and deeply affected boy.

OK 2.5
The key lesson here is that just because you have a director like Clint Eastwood and a leading actor like Matt Damon, don’t assume the result is going to be an action packed gripper. Quite the opposite happens here. It just might be that I was the wrong audience — I guess that bears true from some other reviews I’ve read – so, watch at your own risk.
