I’m not even supposed to be here today.

Clerks follows a day in the life of slacker Dante as he runs a hell hole of a convenience store while dealing with various idiots (including best friend Randal), stoners (the now iconic cult duo of Jay and Silent Bob), and disturbing news (his girlfriend did something VERY bad with 37 men and his ex is getting married). Throughout the day he gets into many misadventures that don’t end well and learns more about his real place in life.

Clerks marked the directorial debut of Kevin Smith. He made Clerks on a shoe string budget. It ended up earning countless amounts of praise and grossed about 3,000,000. It has since become a cult favorite and has led to a string of films that take place in the “View Askewnaverse” (each one featured Jay and Silent Bob and have many references to his other films).

Kevin Smith’s dialogue is filled with wit and charm and it gives teh film its humor and appeal. Like Pulp Fiction, the dialogue mainly consists of relatable topics that get people interested and help them to identify. Some of the best parts of the film include the scenes in which Dante and Randal discuss “death star politics” or when Jay and Silent Bob converse with the many people who walk in and out of the Quick Stop.

The acting is pretty darn good considering most of the people in the film weren’t even professional actors. Every person that appears in the movie is a friend of Kevin Smith. Each of them does an excellent job. The most notable actors are Jeff Anderson as Randal and Jason Mewes as Jay. They steal every scene.

Clerks is one of the funniest movies in existence and one of the best examples of popular culture in film. While the content of it may not be for everyone, it’s still worth a watch. Easily one of my favorite movies ever.

Regarding MJ5K’s Review
Good one MJ. Clerks II had me LMAO. Between that and your review, I gotta find the time to view the original at some point.
