  1. Quality
  2. Barely OK 2.0

“There can be only one?” More like, “There shouldn’t have even been one.” I decided to watch this movie after hearing about it for years as a pop-culture must-see. I started viewing with the knowledge that it was an “older” sci-fi action flick, so I gave it some wiggle room; unfortunately, it still flopped with me. From the lame script to the amateur acting to the random film editing, this film makes me question pop-culture’s tastes and preferences.

    I don’t recommend this movie.

  3. OK 2.5

I admit it: until I started writing this review, I thought the main character was played by Aaron Eckhart (of Thank You For Smoking and The Dark Night fame) … turns out, it wasn’t him at all. It was his older (not) twin brother Christopher Lambert. Whatever. That make explain his lack of acting ability.

Sean Connery was lame as always. Clancy Brown was lame, too.

  4. Male Stars OK 2.5
  5. Female Stars OK 2.5
  6. Female Costars OK 2.5
  7. Male Costars OK 2.5
  8. Barely OK 2.0

The music by Queen was the only redeeming part of this film. Even that only scored a “Great,” however.

As for visuals, I know it was 1986, but seriously — I could see the damn wire MacLeod was hanging from in the final “Prize” scene. They should have at least tried.

Also, the sword-fighting scenes were beyond bad. It looked like the actors were handed swords and told to just do something. There was obviously no real training or even attempt at making it look legitimate.

  9. Direction Barely OK 2.0
  10. Play Barely OK 2.0
  11. Music Great 4.0
  12. Visuals Pretty Bad 1.5
  13. Content
  14. Sordid 2.8

Toplessness, beheadings, and talk of rape made this a sordid movie, for sure.

  15. Sex Erotic 2.9
  16. Violence Brutal 2.6
  17. Rudeness Profane 2.8
  18. Fantasy 5.0

Fantasy, but certainly not my fantasy.

  19. Circumstantial Fantasy 5.0
  20. Biological Fantasy 5.0
  21. Physical Fantasy 5.0
