Great 4.0
A no-nonsense crime movie that belongs with other great Bean-town area movies. Ben Affleck does a bang-up job acting and directing in a movie that sports lots of great action, boy gets girl (sort-of), and a gritty feel that really puts you in the thick of it. The dramatic side of this thriller is also top notch highlighting crime’s effect on the uninitiated.

Great 4.0
Ben Affleck: Ah, your New England roots are up front and center – you fit the movie like a glove. Rebecca Hall would have never worked as a Bostonian – good thing her character was a toonie – nearly convincing as the gal that brings out the goodness in the career criminal. Jon Hamm – what a treat! “This not f’ing around thing is about to go both ways†– indeed – what a great role for him – a totally ruthless opposite to his Madison avenue role on TV. I always love Chris Cooper – “I’ll see ya again – this side or the otherâ€. My out of the blue pick is Pete Postlethwaite – the wiry flower shop ring-leader.

Ben does it again – I didn’t think he could follow ‘Gone Baby Gone’ – but he did. In spades.

Good point. I forgot about Hollywoodland. Another underrated gem with Affleck’s name attached to it. |

Regarding MetalJunky5000’s Review You’re certainly right about Gone, Baby, Gone. Ben can direct. As for his comeback, arguably the first tangible sign was Hollywoodland. |
