  2. OK 2.5

A stupidly-funny movie. It is sometimes tortuous to watch, but nevertheless you might just find yourself sadistically glued to this out-of-left-field story about Power, an incredibly dorky 30-something, trying to become the world’s greatest air drummer. If you are an 80’s rock fan, the sound-track might be worth the viewing alone, but film buffs will appreciate the sheer inventiveness and outlandish humor of it all, where digs appear at every turn: names of characters, street signs, and simply “huh?” behavior.

  3. Good 3.0

Ari Gold does a good job as the supreme-dork 30-something Power with an air-drumming obsession. His lanky build and uber-enthusiastic zeal for “un-drumming” carries the movie. This man has “dork”, in the true 70’s to 80’s era style, written all over him. Shoshanna Stern – loved the deaf girlfriend character who believes in her man. Jane Lynch (now of Glee fame) has a small role as the aunt, and Michael McEan (‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’) as the not quite so understanding dad. My two favorites however are Steven Willians who sports a James Brown-esque character as the motivational air drumming team lead and Adrian Grenier as ‘Dallas Houston’ (lol!), the flamboyant bad-boy air-drummer.

  8. OK 2.5

Ok – the movie is downright stupid at times and teeters on the edge of losing your interest. However, the sheer outlandishness and dry humor keeps it going. An excellent 80’s rock soundtrack is a perfect backdrop to Power’s dorky adventure – because what was cool then is dorky now. Loved the rally-song ‘In the air tonight’, with that famous Phil Collins mid-opening drum solo. LOL.
