Good 3.0
Such a cute damn movie. Could have been more – mostly in the humor department – but as it was, it was very entertaining with a great heart. Despicable Me centers around Gru – a supervillain who is being upstaged by a newcomer, so he sets out to complete the ultimate heist. He’s going to steal the moon. The only problem is, the newcomer who has upstaged him so far, has the shrinking ray that Gru will need to shrink the moon and steal it. Thats where the girls come in. Gru sees the girls selling cookies door to door and decides to use them to get into the newcomers house and get the shrink ray back. And as is easily predicted, Gru falls for the girls. Oh, and he has these little funny looking minions that are not nearly as funny as they think they are.
An entertaining flick for the kids I’m sure, but for adults it is just okay. Adorable, and it has its funny parts, but if you’re looking for quality animated films for all ages look to How To Train Your Dragon.

Very Good 3.5
Steve Carrel puts in a great vocal performance and creates a very convincing personality for Gru. You tend to forget that this is the guy from the Office.
Jason Segal also does a really good job as newcomer villain, Vector. It actually took me quite some time to figure out it was him. Same as Russel Brand. Very well created voices and characters all around.
The littlest girl, Agnes, was freakin adorable. When she shakes the stuffed unicorn and says “Its so fluffy!”, you will probably pee a little bit.

Very Good 3.5
Visually, the movie was great. The animation was good and the characters were well defined. While I didn’t see it in 3D, I could tell it would have been worth seeing in that format – if I didn’t have to pay the extra cost. Maybe a Sunday morning film so its a bit cheaper.
