Great 4.0
Tolstoy’s following vs. Tolstoy the man – this was an interesting historical drama! It would appear the many who took the writings were pushing their own agenda, and “The Last Station†reminds us all that behind every legend is a human being like the rest of us. The movie swirls with drama and interaction; angst over loyalties vs. needs; principles vs. passions. Bottom line, this film is a fascinating look at the irony of Tolstoy’s life and the different directions it sent the people around him. Warning: this is a serious drama – so you must really like the genre, and if you do, you won’t be disappointed!

Great 4.0
Christopher Plummer – fantastic job Leo Tolstoy – perfectly capturing the persona of the wise and introspective icon. Watch his acting versatility as he ages in the film. Brilliant. And then there’s Helen Mirren as Sofya Tolstoy . Helen always impresses me – but she is at a peak , going from stoic, to inseced, to immeasurably in love. Paul Giamatti, a natural in the role of the conniving power dude. Last, but not least, James McAvoy – one of the central characters plays the straight man who busts out with a crush with the plan cute Kerry Condon – who, like Leo and Sofya, teaches him the ways of the world.

Regarding Wick’s Review Our aloof über celebrity’s got a long way to go but took a big step this morning. Leo did most of his carousing prior to marriage, giving Sonya his wild oats diary prior to their marriage. The cad. So Tolstoy paced Woods in arrogance, if not in score. |
