Barely OK 2.0
I was very disappointed in this moovie, which presents a quote from the L.A. Times “The best sports movie ever made.” This may have been true in 1986 but I doubt it. The movie is bleak and fairly dull with weak character development, unattractive characters and is reminiscent of why British drama so often fails in the USA market. To be fair, I had watched Coach Carter before this movie and there is no comparison. Perhaps it is a testament to the improvement in Hollywood’s film making skills. They are both basketball movies, Coach Carter is based on real events, Hoosiers is just a fiction and Coach Carter is incomparably better. If you want to watch a good basketball movie, avoid Hoosiers. If you just wish to suffer, poke yourself in the eye; it would be about the same experience
