Wick's Review

Created Jun 09, 2009 09:26PM PST • Edited May 20, 2013 11:09PM PST

  1. Quality
  2. Bad 1.0

Comedically bankrupt, with nary a laugh in the entire movie. Some appealing performances can’t rescue it from playing like a 3rd rate Devil Wears Prada.

Admittedly, I’m outside this movie’s target demographic. Still, stuck inside an airplane with nothing else to watch, whadda gonna do? I ain’t the kind of guy who gets lost in the SkyMall catalog.

  3. Barely OK 2.0

Isla Fisher needs better material fast or her career is soon to be over. The next Amy Adams? Hah, not with roles like this.

Of the supporting performances, Kristin Scott-Thomas and Leslie Bibb were both strong, while John Goodman and John Lithgow were solid as always.

  4. Male Stars Barely OK 2.0
  5. Female Stars Pretty Bad 1.5
  6. Female Costars Very Good 3.5
  7. Male Costars OK 2.5
  8. Pretty Awful 0.5

NYC always serves as a reliable backdrop for these kinds of bright lights, big city movies.

  9. Direction Awful 0.0
  10. Play Awful 0.0
  11. Music Awful 0.0
  12. Visuals Good 3.0
  13. Content
  14. Tame 1.0
  15. Sex Innocent 1.0
  16. Violence Gentle 1.0
  17. Rudeness Polite 1.0
  18. Glib 1.3

Timely, what with much of the Western World realizing that credit doesn’t grow on trees. Too bad the movie squandered such a great set-up.

  19. Circumstantial Glib 1.8
  20. Biological Natural 1.0
  21. Physical Natural 1.0
