  1. Quality
  2. Perfect 5.0

This movie is not only a mystery, but definately a sort of thriller. An illness that spreads and yet has no origin and no explination. That’s a scarey thought.

This movie is based on the novel by José Saramago.

The movie is about people going blind in a random fashion. The only one that can see is the Doctor’s wife. Everyone gets locked down in a mental institution and have to fend for themselves, and the doctor’s wife takes it upon herself to make sure that everyone gets what they need. (at least she tries) This story really puts you in the character’s shoes and makes you think about what we all take for granted, and that’s what captivated me.

  3. Really Great 4.5

Julianne Moore (9 Months, Hannible) – Doctor’s Wife – Being such an amazing actress, she never ceases to amaze me. She really shows a charater that will do anything, literally anything, to protect herself and everyone close to her.

Mark Ruffalo (13 Going on 30) – The Doctor- He really shows vulnerability in the film. Though his character in the film is stricken by blindess, he still tries to manage the people as best as he can.

There aren’t very many well known actors in the film (other than Danny Glover, Julianne, and Mark), But each one portrayed their characters as realistically as possible.

  8. Perfect 5.0

The Fact that they filmed in Brazil and in the middle of the city, the writers had José a part of the process, they had the actors wear contacts that really made them blind (can you find out which parts they didn’t have them on?), and how each extra went the extra mile to fit into the film, really made me enjoy the film even more. The actors weren’t originally supposed to do that, but they did and I found it amazing. The fact that there was barley anything shown, but everything was implied, that’s something that I found that kept my interest. The film had sort of an Alfred Hitchcock feel in that department. I love how they stuck to the originality of the novel, they used no names for the characters (as Saramago did) and they kept everything according to the novel, per Saramago.

  11. Music Perfect 5.0
  12. Visuals Perfect 5.0
  13. Content
  14. Horrid 4.5

Violence: Oh I found plenty of that here. A man naming himself King and then taking all of the food from everyone and making them either give up possessions or… well watch, it was just wrong. How there’s faeces all over walls and then there were random shootings, think about it; they’re all blind. Fires, just loads of suffering. There are rape and sex scenes. Though they are not fully shown, they are definately implied and heard. There are naked people that appear throughout the film and you get to see Julianne’s breasts. You just wonder how all of this happened and was there a way to fix it…watch and find out.

  15. Sex Lewd 4.0
  16. Violence Savage 4.5
  17. Rudeness Vile 5.0
  18. Natural 1.0

Now though this has never happened, who’s to say that it won’t. To have the whole world just randomly become blind and not know a cause or cure. There certainly would be anarchy, and would there be somone that would be emune? We would never know unless we were put into that position. But this movie seems pretty real to me. I would be terrified if I woke up and couldn’t see, wouldn’t you?

  19. Circumstantial Natural 1.0
  20. Biological Natural 1.0
  21. Physical Natural 1.0
