John A Massie's Review

Created Aug 10, 2008 06:19PM PST • Edited Aug 10, 2008 06:19PM PST

  1. Quality
  2. Great 4.0

Well made, very entertaining, and without a moment of drag, and yet I was still slightly disappointed witht this film. Probably because all the hype created unrealisitic expectations. Dark Knight is just a well amde summer blockbuster, nothing more, nothing less.

  3. Very Good 3.5

Ledger’s Joker, while creepy, was a bit too theatrical for me to consider him great. Gary Oldman probably gave the best performance although it was entirely unflashy support. Eckhart was pretty good and Bale and Gylenhaal did OK considering how little they had to work with character wise.

  4. Male Stars Very Good 3.5
  5. Female Stars Good 3.0
  6. Female Costars Perfect 5.0
  7. Male Costars Great 4.0
  8. Really Great 4.5
  9. Direction Perfect 5.0
  10. Play Great 4.0
  11. Music Really Great 4.5
  12. Visuals Really Great 4.5
  13. Content
  14. Sordid 3.5
  15. Sex Erotic 3.5
  16. Violence Brutal 3.5
  17. Rudeness Profane 3.5
  18. Surreal 2.3
  19. Circumstantial Surreal 3.0

Ah, how could I forget. There were just too many good movies out that year.

Agreed. Let’s not forget Iron Man, also from 2008.

I gotta say, Wick, as far as movies go, I’d say 2008 was the best year for movies since 1994 and movies such as “The Dark Knight”, “Slumdog Millionaire”, “The Wrestler”, and “Milk” prove my point.
