Wick's Review

Created Jun 08, 2008 02:40PM PST • Edited Jan 06, 2014 03:17PM PST

  1. Quality
  2. OK 2.5

Cute but dated Beverly Hills high school spoof from the mid-90s. Stars Alicia Silverstone and Paul Rudd provide plenty of charm, but the of-the-moment slang hasn’t aged well.

  3. Very Good 3.5

Clueless made Alicia Silverstone a star, not long after which she kinda sank without a trace. Paul Rudd, OTOH, is a major talent now getting regular play in Judd Apatow’s movies (Knocked Up, 40 Year Old Virgin, etc.).

  4. Male Stars Very Good 3.5
  5. Female Stars Very Good 3.5
  6. Female Costars Very Good 3.5
  7. Male Costars Very Good 3.5
  8. OK 2.5

While Clueless was a big hit for writer-director Amy Heckerling, it hasn’t become the classic that her Fast Times at Ridgemont High has.

  9. Direction Good 3.0
  10. Play Barely OK 2.0
  11. Music OK 2.5
  12. Visuals Good 3.0
  13. Content
  14. Tame 1.3
  15. Sex Innocent 1.5
  16. Violence Gentle 1.0
  17. Rudeness Polite 1.4
  18. Glib 1.2
  19. Circumstantial Glib 1.5
  20. Biological Natural 1.0
  21. Physical Natural 1.0

Fair enough, AMC. I stumbled on Clueless on some cable channel after not having seen it for a decade, and I did enjoy it in a pop, bubble-gum way. Fast Times it ain’t, though.
