   Very Good 3.5

   The opening scenes quickly showed this movie’s intention to grip the you and keep you engaged – and indeed it did, and it remained that way through the whole film. Phillip Seymor Hoffman and Ethan Hawke work well as conflicted and misbehaving brothers – even if they don’t look related in any way. Hoffman is perfectly cast, because he’s one of the few actors who can pull off being evil in believable way. Hawke is also believable as the “follower” brother. Marissa Tomei was easy to watch as the rough-edged hottie wife of Hoffman. The way the movie is directed is a little Cohen-esque in style, but is unique in the way it flashes backward and forward in time to show you the different angles. At first I thought it would be distracting, but it really ended up being an excellent way to tell the story and add to the already twisting and turning tale…Good movie!
